A Grey World

Everything today is looking so damn dull grey

The black and the white no longer in the fray

The green and the red fallen by the way

The blue and the yellow no longer so mellow

The light and the dark battled and battled

Eternity’s end brought victory to the dark

Dark ate light and the world turned grey

Lush green jungles our earth did adorn

Every single moment new life was born

Now stand proudly shooting to the heavens

On old green ruins, grey cement jungles

Lovely red the roses, deep red the blood in our viens

Deep seated passions for love or for war

The red fire burnt out leaving just grey ashes

The men in grey suits now call all the shots

Bright yellow sun smiled out of the blue sky

Through the open window on a lazy day

But the grey cloud has hidden both sun and sky

Only grey windows pop up on the grey lap top

No blue, no green, no red, no yellow,

No black nor white but grey, grey, grey

Grey steel, grey cement, grey suits,

Grey offices, Grey screens, Grey windows,

Grey ash, grey smoke, Grey clouds

It is all just one damn dull grey world.

Wow, this almost made me hate Grey. But I quite like some of the shades of Grey irl... Great poem!

Beautiful choice of words, wonderfully expressed!

Thanks, Krissa and Arti. Somehow people keep talking of things not being black and white but grey all the time. And grey seems to be the color of professionalism, of the corporate world. So I singled out grey to express my ire againt the modern world.

Grey sums it up I would say! Good but sad poem!

Nice build up throughout your poem, and the ending is very strong. Well written!

I loved this!
I have never liked the color myself ever- technically, it's not a color..

Well, you described it very vividly. The psychology that i have carried in my mind; you have written it down so well..

Many more Hugs xox

Thanks a lot, Olivia. Good to see someone else who is not too fond of grey.

nice bit of social commentary...i will say i fit the gray only as much as it represents alternatives to the black and the white...corporate, i escaped that long ago and never want to go back...

ha! from greenery to gray hey! lol. I think this piece was an interesting and from a sad and depressive perspective lol. However from lucifer's house, grey is so close to dark thus should be a beautiful thing to be appreciated :p lol

I enjoyed the laugh.

Dull days, grey times, endless suffering..it would all be in vain but for love. Well written.
Thank you. Gay

Thanks, Brian, Good for you. I am still caught in the corporate whirlpool and need to keep hearing about being able to work in the grey area from bosses in grey suits.

Thanks,lynamia and Beachanny.

Well, lynnaima. I had earlier written a poem from the war spirit's perspective enjoying the death and destruction caused by war. But this poem was from my own perspective which was depressing.

True, Beachanny.

Ah, all the colours to confound our dreams. Thank heaven all hues are grey in the dark. For colours to truly live the mind requires light.
Loved this. James.

Liked your comment, James. Deeper than my poem.

interesting indeed how colours define not just the forms but also our perceptions towards the world. I for example purposely didnt use the 'grey' shade in my poem as it was all about the vibrant life and joys and u have beautifully represented a grim face of the earth by the use of grey. wonderfully written..thnks so much for sharing :)

great work..

P.S.: though i like the color but not when it pushes me into depression.. :)

T F Carthick said...

Thanks a lot, Swati, I have always found grey depressing. Thats why I wrote this.

I like the choice of 'grey' over 'gray.' Somehow, Grey seems more melancholy and Gothic.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks, Stan. Was not intentional, though.

Congratulation! A very thought provoking poem. The imagery of grey permeates the entire poem giving it the feeling of all colors gone. Lovely

The colors invoked a lot of difference in thoughts...I love the world filled with colors only and thinking of grey ..oh ! I'm happy to be born after every digital products (TV/Photo/rest)had been colorized.

You got the essence of my poem, Uma. You are lucky to have always lived in a color world. I have seen grey Windows OS.

Vaishali Jain said...

This poem shows your creativity, esp in the way you have used colors to depict the real world. Your anger sounds so very relatable with the use of 'grey'. Keep writing! :)
