Post Story Note

So that was the greatest story ever told. I hope you enjoyed it. I thought I would add a small note giving some background information about this story. These days internet and other technologies are changing the entire face of the storytelling landscape. I recently read a book where the ending was kept dynamic and readers could log into a web site and choose an ending of their choice. So I decided to take things to a different level and make an adaptive story - a story that adapts itself to the intelligence and emotional level of the reader. I have designed a special widget and added to my blog which will probe your mind and assess your intellectual and emotional capabilities and accordingly adapt the story based on your capabilities.

This is not something all together new. The idea has been thought of by many people people and also implemented in small ways. J K Rowling in her famous Harry Potter series mentions this room of requirements that can adapt itself as per the need of the user. Competitive exams such as GRE, GMAT present examples of more skeletal implementations of the idea where the computerizes adaptive testing customizes questions to the intelligence level of the test taker.

One small drawback with this technology is that there is a minimum level of aptitude required to comprehend the story. If the widget assesses your mind to be below the required thresholds, the story shall remain untold as far as you are concerned. But you need not have to worry for even if you had been told the story, you would not have comprehended.

I do look forward to all your feedback after reading my story. It will be fascinating to see how the story has presented itself to each one of you. If I don't see your comments here or don't see you voting for my story,  I can understand. After all not everyone is equally gifted.

Thanks, SIS. Hard luck, dude.

Thanks, Ayushi.

Thanks, CS.

Seeing the number of people being failed by the widget, seems like I won't be able to sell this widget to anyone.

Lol.I was actually thinking of skipping Blog-a-ton. Then suddenly came up with this concept.

Hmm.. why do I feel that I am in the midst of this story? :-)

Anonymous said...

I haven't read any of your stories earlier, but I've come across references of you being good at 'em.

I have to tell you, this 'tgset' disappoints. The plot lacks coherence. I feel that the author himself lost interest in narrating the story in the middle of it all. And what's with the characters man, why are they so demented?

Oh, btw I read your story using the 'pro' version of this widget; which of course allows me to see your original thoughts (as stated above) and customize it to myself. Needless to say, when I saw it in ma 'mind' - it was a mind-blowing story.

Rinaya said...

LOL...awesome way to narrate the untold story...you are always full of surprises!

Deepa from FictionPies said...

Jeez, I actually refreshed it twice. Sudden inspiration huh? Creative, but there's something missing :( The typical storyline that you're so famous for, guess due to Indifiction I have come to expect a lot of text!

T F Carthick said...

Fooled you, eh, Deepa? I am glad about you regard for my writings. To be frank, Deepa, my mind is on other projects - Harry Potter series and nostalgia posts. Blog-a-ton was the last thing on my mind. Thought of skipping it when this idea stuck me. Just put it up for fun. In the coming few months, you might find me skipping all contests except our writing workshop.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks Rinaya. Thought I would have some fun this time.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks a lot, Arjun.

T F Carthick said...

Ha Ha Ha, aativas. I finally write a story that really involved the reader.

T F Carthick said...

At last someone who was able to read the story! So you the one, eh, the one chosen by my widget. Maybe if you leave behind your address and contact details, I can send you a reward.

Hi TF

I loved the story...When I have enough money, I am considering making a movie out of it...Will contact you for settling copyright related stuff :D We are on our way to become millionaires with this plot....:)

T F Carthick said...

Sure Jaishree. Thanks. Will keep it for you unless Steven Spielberg has not bought it of me already bought it by then.

Siddhesh Kabe said...

Oh brilliant! It felt like Shakespere, ACD, Wodehouse and Dan Brown all rolled into one. Keep up the good work, I am surprised that you aren't already acknowledged as the greatest storyteller the world has ever known! ;)

T F Carthick said...

Thanks odyzz. And as far as comments and compliments go, the lesser there is to read, more the comments and compliments people will give. Its not like blog-a-ton is the only stuff I write. If you want to see TF, come in during any of the other days and you shall find. Writing lot of stories in general. So could not think up for one for Blog-a-ton as well.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks Rickie. Only one missing was Chetan Bhagat.

odyzz said...

You and me are on the same line ..I just wanted to say that the real TF was missing somewhere in this post and for that the reason has been clarified in replies to the other comments ..since I have read and appreciated your work few years back as well I know that you are a master player of words...

My God! I actually refreshed it thrice! Zero IQ.. Loved the creativity and idea.:)

Please do read my entry: http://ponderingtwo.blogspot.in/2012/10/love-torn.html

Well, that's the advantage of using the 'pro' version. There was no way your version could have played it's tricks on me.
Anyway, I don't mind the rewards at all.

But, I'm in heaven. Sure you'll be reach out here?

You know..you almost made me a detective :D lol.. But may be the curiosity killed the cat :)
I would love to come here again for the refreshing idea behind this "untold story" .. that it wasn't told.. :)

T F Carthick said...

Thanks Siddesh. Good to see you back on blog-a-ton after a long hiatus.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks Rohan. Will check out your entry.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks a lot, Apala. This was just a crazy idea I got. I am glad you liked it so much.

T F Carthick said...

I am not sure what I was planning to send would be allowed into heaven or not. Maybe you should apply for a transfer to the other place.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks Megha. Good to know my trick actually worked.

Lol. Quite an innocent suggestion. I'm done with my time in hell, not getting back there anytime soon. Am sure, in future, we can work out a way for you being able to show your gratitude to me ;)

Kshitij KK Khurana said...

Ok! You are telling stories or making fun?? ;p
Quite creative. Can't say I loved it. But you have been experimenting - and I like that fact.

T F Carthick said...

Thanks Kshitij. Guess both. Was in no mood to participate this time. Guess its time I took a 5-6 month break from blog-a-ton. Now that the participation numbers are looking good, Marshals have also allowed me to take a well deserved break after 18 attempts.

Kshitij KK Khurana said...

Yeah!! I think you should take a small break then. Probably check out the topic declaration.. and decide.

I can so bloody relate to your thoughts about taking a break. I was on the exact same point a year ago.. and now having participated consecutively for the past few months, I am getting there again.

In fact, you would not believe, all my BAT posts are being written (and at times even thought of) at 11PM and posted just before the cutoff. That is the reason for so many poems (rhyming is bloody easy). But at the end of the day, if I am taking it like that... like an obligation, no sense.

T F Carthick said...

It gets tiring writing for prompts over and over. Also right now pipeline of writing ideas is full. So this is becoming more a chore. So I plan to sit out till I again run dry of inspiration for ideas to write on.

Kshitij KK Khurana said...

Ha :) And I am sooo bloody empty of ideas. I am not able to get any 'endings' to weave humor stories around. So, I am doing this BAT stuff just to write something. I see you have not participated this time.

Let's see when you come back :)

T F Carthick said...

Yeah. I don't know if I will get back to BAT. Maybe initially when no one was reading me, the blog-a-ton kind of I read you, you read me readership was exciting. But after 5 years of blogging, I still don't want to be there. If my writing is not worth reading for itself, possibly I don't have writing talent. Can't afford to waste my time reading 30-40 posts of random bloggers in a week.
